Why practice pleasure
Pleasure is health
When we feel good, we release feel-good hormones.
Pleasurable experience triggers oxytocin, endorphins and dopamine, hormones that lower cortisol, reduce inflammation and regulate the nervous system. Feeling good is not indulgent. It is restorative biology.
Neuroplasticity
Daily practice programs new pleasure pathways.
Your brain rewires around what you repeat. Intentional daily pleasure practice builds new neural pathways, so feeling good becomes your default, not your exception. You begin to find pleasure in the normal, in the mundane.
Heart-Centered
Practicing what feels good is practicing self love.
When we choose what is good for us and feels good in our body, we practice loving ourselves. Not as a concept. As a daily act.
The practice, follow along
Start by breathing normally through your nose. Relax your tongue from the palate. Relax your jaw. Relax your shoulders. Let your body sink. Keep your lips lightly sealed, while keeping the teeth slightly parted. Gently close your eyes.
Become aware of the sensation of the breath, entering and leaving your body. Let the breath be deep and effortless.
Now bring your attention to the lower part of your belly, just above your pubic bone. Visualize a ball of pleasure nestled within that space. This ball represents the sensation of pleasure in your body.
Imagine a white glowing ball that expands and contracts inside your belly. As the ball contracts and gets smaller, the pleasure becomes more concentrated. As it grows larger, the pleasure becomes more diffuse and expands outwards.
We are going to use belly breathing to manipulate this ball of pleasure. As you inhale, your stomach expands. Imagine the ball of pleasure expanding with it. Allow this expansion to create a sense of openness and relaxation within you.
As you exhale, draw your stomach in, squeezing all the air out, gently squeezing your rectum and abdominals. You are squeezing the ball of pleasure. Hold. Feel the ball becoming smaller, the sensation more concentrated.
As you inhale, you are naturally expanding the pelvic floor and the belly. As you exhale, you are naturally squeezing the pelvic floor and the belly goes in.
Inhale, expand. Exhale, squeeze. Stay with this rhythm. Let the sensation build.
